Weight loss drugs – Mounjauro

We are aware that it has recently been announced that Mounjauro (Tirzepatide) is now available for General Practice to prescribe.

However, we wanted to share the strict criteria of who can access Mounjauro via the NHS.

Only, patients with a BMI of 40+ and who have at least four weight related health conditions can access Mounjauro:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• High cholesterol
• Obstructive sleep apnoea (when your breathing stops and starts while you sleep)
• Cardiovascular disease (heart and blood vessel disease)
• Type 2 diabetes mellitus
• Or who have one weight related health condition and need to lose weight urgently for a specified life limiting reason such as cancer treatment or organ replacement.

And for those that meet these criteria, we would need to explore whether this is the right treatment for the them. In addition, we must provide wrap around support consisting of psychological, nutritional and exercise advice.
